It’s you, the goalkeeper, and a baying crowd. 12 yards stand between you and everlasting glory or eternal agony.

Penalty shoot-outs often represent the most pressurised moments on a football pitch and that's before we think about the fans watching all over the world. 


Thanks to Opta’s database which includes in-depth information on every match from the 1966 World Cup to present day, we can begin to understand more about the key moments from the 26 World Cup penalty shoot-outs there have been to date.
